How to Find the Right Toothbrush for YouMarch 11, 2022 8:51 pm |
Brushing your teeth twice daily is essential for great oral health. You may think any old toothbrush will work, but you want to choose one that’s right for you. Here are the top factors to consider when choosing a toothbrush:
Manual or Electric
Which is better? Electric toothbrushes come with many benefits, like a timer and different brush settings. If you have a health condition like arthritis, electric toothbrushes are also more comfortable. Many people find they get cleaner teeth with an electric toothbrush, but if you’re using good brushing techniques, a manual toothbrush keeps your teeth clean, too. It’s up to you and what you prefer.
Size of the Brush Head
A toothbrush’s head size matters because you need it to reach every part of your mouth. When choosing a brush head, make sure it can comfortably reach the front, back, and top of your teeth. Some people benefit from larger brush heads, but these can make it harder to clean your molars.
Type of Bristles
Bristles are measured in density and come in soft, medium, and hard. Soft bristles do a fine job of removing plaque and food debris. Harder bristles can wear down your enamel and hurt your gums. Unless we recommend something else, soft bristles are the way to go.
Any toothbrush you choose should be ADA-approved. This seal of approval means the brush has gone through safety tests and will clean your smile if used as directed. The ADA approves both manual and electric toothbrushes. The seal will read “ADA Accepted.”
