The Dental Implant Process

The process begins with a small incision in the gums, after which an implant-sized hole is drilled into the jawbone, and a titanium implant is carefully placed. Once the gums are closed up and start to heal, the implant will begin to fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This fusion is what makes implants so stable, like they are natural teeth. After several weeks of healing, a natural-looking artificial tooth will be attached to the top of the implant that will be designed to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

Who is eligible for dental implants?

Patients should be in general good health and have a healthy jawbone and gums to support an implant. If your jawbone density needs to be repaired, we will have to perform bone graft surgery first, which will lengthen the overall process. Patients who smoke regularly or who have autoimmune disorders will need to have their unique situation assessed by our team, as these factors can slow down the implant healing process. If you are interested in dental implants and want to see if you would be a good candidate, feel free to schedule a consultation with our team!
