Six Dental Tips to Remember This Thanksgiving
November 21, 2022 8:58 pm |Thanksgiving is historically known for gatherings, traditions, and delicious feasts. So, there’s no doubt you may be planning a big feast with family or friends. If you plan to dive into dishes this Thanksgiving, here are six dental tips to remember!
1. Floss Frequently
Gatherings and parties can be an all-day event. There’s no doubt that the amount of food you’re eating is more than what you typically consume. If this is the case, protect your teeth from leftovers stuck in between by flossing each time after you eat!
2. Limit Coffee & Wines
Whether drinking a warm cup of coffee with dessert or sipping on wine as the turkey bakes, it’s easy to get lost in the never-ending consumption of tasty beverages. However, limit coffee and wine as both are acidic and can quickly stain your teeth.
3. Opt for Protein & Vegetables
Starchy dishes like stuffing are undoubtedly one of the best parts of Thanksgiving but can be harmful to your oral health. Instead of loading up on stuffing, opt for more protein and vegetables, which can help rebuild tooth enamel.
4. Be Mindful of Sugar
Desserts like pumpkin pie to sweet potatoes with marshmallows will surely catch your eye. But keep in mind that sugar can cause cavities.
5. Drink Plenty of Water
Did you know water is a natural cleanser? Drinking water can flush away acids and leftover food after you eat. This can reduce plaque buildup, so be sure to drink plenty of water between and with meals.
6. Bite with Caution
Turkey is a great protein source. However, sometimes biting into turkey can be tough. Bite with caution to avoid damaging a tooth!
