Signs Your Child May Need to Go to the Dentist

You keep up with your child’s routine dental visits every six months, but sometimes it is necessary to stray from the schedule and bring your child in sooner. In today’s post, we’ll explore the most common reasons why you may need to take your child to the dentist.

Persistent Pain

If your child’s in pain, it’s always a cause for concern, right. If there’s pain in the tooth or mouth that’s lasting more than a short amount of time, it’s a good idea to give us a call. Persistent pain and sensitivity could be a sign of tooth decay, damage, or even infection.

Discoloration

If you notice that one of your child’s teeth has changed color, it’s something you’ll want to take seriously. What you’ll usually see is the shift from a nice, white, or yellowish, tooth to one that’s gray or even black. This is the sign of a dead tooth, and it’s something that you’ll need to alert your dentist of right away.

Bad Breath

Not only can bad breath cause social issues for your little one, it can also be a sign of a deeper issue. Halitosis is often a sign of poor oral hygiene, which you can help your child correct. However, if you’ve been supervising your child’s oral care routine but seeing no changes, you’ll want to talk to your dentist. The smell could be a sign of infection, a foreign object, or even, in rare cases, disease.
